Introduction

Occasionally, a writer's purpose is merely to entertain. More often, however, a writer wishes to say something important, to present a message about the life of human beings. This message becomes the theme of the selection.

Task

Visit selected web sites to collect facts and photos about Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, the small towns of Sistersville and Friendly, West Virginia, and beagles to create a newsletter.

Using both primary and secondary sources, write a composition on a theme found in Shiloh Season. Choose one of the following themes:

Conclusion

In Shiloh Season Phyllis Reynolds Naylor presents a message, or theme, through her use of a familiar setting of a small town in West Virginia, a plot which helps the reader understand why people act as they do, and a cast of characters who are like others we know.
